In this post I’m going to share with you the 15 most common signs that a deceased loved one is with you.

After I reveal these spiritual signs from heaven, I will share a few powerful ways to communicate with a deceased loved one.

Are you ready to learn how to tell if a deceased loved one is around?

Let’s get started.

1. Feathers on the Ground

The next time you pass by a feather on the ground, don’t ignore it. Feathers are one of the most common ways to receive messages from angels and deceased loved ones in heaven.

According to the Bible, a finding feather on the ground holds a very special meaning. If you have been worried about money or how you will provide for your family after a loved one has passed away, there’s hope.

Matthew 6:26 says “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.”

When you see a feather on the ground this could be a message that you are not alone. God will watch over you and provide for your family.

2. Butterflies Flying Around You

A butterfly is considered to be a special message from heaven. If you have recently lost someone close to you, this could be a sign of a loved one communicating after death.

Angels are sent by God to deliver messages (Luke 1:19). If a butterfly lands on you or flies around you, that is a very positive sign.

Seeing butterflies after the death of a loved one can be caused by your recent thoughts or prayers about that person.

Take hope in the fact that your deceased loved one is with you, even in such a small way.

The next time you see a butterfly it should put a smile on your face and give your comfort.

3. Finding Pennies and Dimes

One way that a deceased loved one might send you a sign is by placing pennies, dimes or quarters on the ground in front of you.

I like to call them “pennies from heaven” and they are a special way to remember loved ones that have passed away.

Finding pennies on the ground is a special sign from God that you are not alone in your journey. He has plans to prosper you, give you hope, and a future.

When you find money on the ground, pick it up and look at the date. The date that is inscribed on a penny could be a sign about who this message is from.

If you don’t recognize the date, hold onto it until you receive another sign. There could be more messages coming soon.

4. Visits from Birds

During creation God separated the heavens from the waters of the earth. Yet, he allowed the “birds to fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens” (Genesis 1:20).

For this reason, birds are often thought of as messengers of God.

When you see a special bird such as a cardinal, this could be a message from someone in heaven.

Pay attention to when this happens as it could help you figure out who this message is from. Write down the date and time in your journal or on the calendar.

Birds might deliver messages on birthdays of the deceased, on the day they died, or other significant holidays.

You should feel relieved to know that someone in heaven is thinking about you.

5. Seeing a Dragonfly

Dragonflies are thought to carry spiritual messages from heaven.

A dragonfly is symbolic of change and transformation. If one lands on you or flies nearby, this is a sign that change is coming soon.

Someone in heaven is reminding you that what you are going through is only temporary. Whatever troubles you are facing will be resolved soon.

6. Discovering Smooth, Odd or Unique Stones

When you notice an odd or unique stone on the ground, it was likely placed there for you to see.

Someone in heaven is trying to get your attention or remind you that they are watching over you.

Feel free to pick up the stone and keep it as a reminder that your deceased loved one is still with you.

7. Smelling a Familiar Scent

When you smell a familiar scent, this is a surefire way to know that a deceased loved one is with you.

Researchers have discovered that our sense of smell is closely linked with our memory recall abilities. If you smell something and it makes you think of a loved one, it is likely that they are in your presence.

People often report smelling things that remind them of their loved ones, such as the smell of certain types of food, even if they are nowhere near a kitchen.

The next time you smell something that reminds you of a deceased loved one, take a moment and reflect on the great memories you made together. They are likely thinking about the same memory, too.

8. Having Dreams About a Loved One

Dreaming about someone can be a sign that a loved one is communicating after death.

This might come as a great surprise to you!

If you dream about someone you have not seen for a long time they are likely thinking about you or might make an appearance in your life soon.

Many people believe that dreams are messages from God in response to our thoughts or prayers.

However, if we do not hear God’s voice directly, He will send instructions in a dream as we sleep (Job 33:15).

Having a dream about a loved one is considered to be a positive sign that they are watching over you.

9. Finding Personal Items in Strange Places

You may begin to notice signs from a loved one in heaven when their old personal items begin appearing in strange places.

For instance, you may notice a piece of their clothing has been moved out of the dresser or closet.

They may also move your car keys, reading glasses or newspaper in surprising ways. When this happens it can feel like you are becoming more forgetful, but in reality it is a loved one trying to get your attention.

Take this moment to reflect on the memories you had together and the special bond you shared. Remember they will always remain in your heart even when they are in heaven.

10. Sensing Their Presence

Have you ever had the feeling that someone was watching you or you could feel someone’s presence even if nobody was around?

If this has ever happened to you, this was likely a sign that a loved one or your guardian angel was nearby.

Even though you could not see them, you could “feel” that they were standing right next to you.

The next time this happens, say a prayer and thank God for sending an angel to walk with you during these difficult times.

11. Hearing a Voice Say Your Name

Another common sign from heaven is when you hear a familiar voice say your name, even when you are alone.

You might hear a loved one call your name while you are sleeping or dreaming.

When this happens it can feel as if someone is there, even if you cannot see them. This is a sign that an angel has been sent from heaven to watch over you.

12. Lights Flickering Randomly

When a deceased loved one is nearby it is not uncommon to experience what some might call paranormal activity.

For instance, you may notice the lights flickering or turn off completely. In other cases, you may hear or see static on the television or radio without warning.

Some people report answering their phone after a loved one has passed away and hearing only silence on the other end.

These strange events are thought to be caused by the movement of angels or the deceased within your home.

Pay close attention to what happens next, as these signs are just evidence that an angel is on their way to deliver a message.

13. Seeing Angel Numbers

One way you may notice signs that a deceased loved one is with you is when you see repeating numbers or unique number sequences.

Many call these Angel Numbers because they are believed to be signs of angels.

You may see a specific time on the clock each day such as 12:12 or 4:44. Other times you may notice number sequences in account numbers, license plates, phone numbers or lottery tickets.

When you begin to notice the same numbers appearing frequently, then you should suspect that they are angel numbers and are a sign that a deceased loved one is with you.

14. Hearing Music or Their Favorite Song

Listening to music will often trigger past memories or evoke emotion. When you hear a song that reminds you of a loved one, this is a sign that they are with you.

Music is a great way to keep those that you’ve lost always in your heart.

Listening to their favorite bands, albums, or songs is a beautiful way to evoke their memories of them in your mind. If you close your eyes while their favorite song is playing, it might feel as if they are still in the room with you.

15. Experiencing Ringing in the Ears

You may experience ringing in the ears if someone in Heaven is talking about you.

Have you recently lost someone close to you? Hearing a high-pitched noise in your right ear could be a sign that your guardian angel is trying to pass on a message from Heaven.

While we cannot know exactly who is talking about us in heaven, we can use this message to inspire our prayers. Take a moment to pray and ask that God look over your deceased loved ones in Heaven.
