What Does it Mean When You See a Black Butterfly?

Butterflies symbolize hope, transformation, and new beginnings.

In fact, throughout their lifespan, butterflies go through many changes called metamorphosis.

For example, they grow from an egg into a caterpillar, then they transform into a beautiful butterfly.

While we do not grow wings like butterflies, we also go through many changes throughout our life. That’s why seeing a butterfly is thought to carry a very important spiritual message about hope.

So the next time you see a butterfly, watch very carefully as it may be trying to get your attention.

Here’s what it means when you see a black butterfly:

1. You Will Have a Sleepless Night

When you see a black butterfly, this is a sign that you recently had a sleepless night or will have a difficult time falling asleep soon.

Black butterflies can be symbolic of stress or a financial problem you are dealing with at the moment.

You might be wondering whether you made the right decision or said the wrong thing. You continue to worry about something that happened in the past and wonder what you should have done differently.

Although your friends and family are usually there to support you, this is a problem you have been dealing with all on your own.

The good news is that this stress will not last long. Just as a butterfly disappears as quickly as it arrived, so will your problems.

If you have been praying for a financial blessing in your life, seeing a black butterfly is a reminder that God will provide all that you need (Matthew 6:25).

2. Your Family Relationships Will Improve

Butterflies might appear in response to your thoughts or prayers for guidance in your relationships.

If you’ve been having problems with relationships in your family, seeing a black butterfly might be a positive sign.

The disagreements you’ve been having with the people you care about may soon end on a positive note.

On the other hand, if you are struggling to forgive someone close to you, this could be a sign to stop feeling angry at this person.

Letting go of the anger you feel inside might lead to a beautiful transformation in your life. So when you see a black butterfly, remember that it could symbolize a new beginning in your relationships.

3. You Are Learning How to Cope with Aging

Seeing a black butterfly is often a sign that you are learning how to cope with aging well. Getting older is not an easy process, but you are starting to get the hang of it.

Although you are active and have much energy, it is no secret that you are feeling the effects of aging much earlier than you were expecting.

This may present itself as being more forgetful or having a difficult time remembering things. You thought having memory problems would happen at a much older age, but it’s part of your life now.

As you get older you might be struggling to maintain the romance in your relationship or get the attention of the opposite sex.

While you cannot turn back the clock, you are slowly learning new ways to stay young at heart and enjoy the next stage in your life.

When you see a black butterfly, this is a reassuring sign that you are handling these challenges well.

Common Types of Black Butterflies

The type of black butterfly you see will depend on which part of the world you are in. There are hundreds of butterfly species with black wings, but they all carry very similar spiritual messages.

Some of the most common butterflies you’ll find in the United States include the Black Swallowtail and Common Sootywing.

Names of Black Butterflies:

  • Archduke (Lexias dirtea)
  • Atala (Eumaeus atala)
  • Common Green Birdwing (Ornithoptera priamus)
  • Eastern Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes)
  • Gold Rim Swallowtail (Battus polydamas)
  • Lysander Cattleheart (Parides lysander)
  • Common Sootywing (Pholisora catullus)

It is rare to encounter a butterfly that is purely black in color. Instead, if you look closely to their wings, you might notice spots of different colors. Butterflies are often speckled with white, yellow, orange, red, or blue spots on their wings.

Although butterflies are thought to deliver special spiritual messages, there are ways you can attract more of them into your yard.

Butterflies feed off of the nectar of flowers and use the leaves of certain plants to lay their eggs.

They are attracted to nectar plants such as Milkweed, Marigolds, and Sunflowers.

If you want more butterflies next season, consider planting more nectar flowers in groups or bunches in your garden.

Signs From Heaven That a Deceased Loved One is with You

Here are the 15 most common signs that a deceased loved one is with you:

1. Feathers on the Ground

The next time you pass by a feather on the ground, don’t ignore it. Feathers are one of the most common ways to receive messages from angels and deceased loved ones in heaven.

2. Finding Pennies and Dimes

One way that a deceased loved one might send you a sign is by placing pennies, dimes or quarters on the ground in front of you. I like to call them “pennies from heaven” and they are a special way to remember loved ones that have passed away.
